About 10minutes in to the F8 Keynote video on the FaceBook Platform, Mark Zuckerberg runs thru some slides on what he calls the facebook social graph. Nice example of how groups can exponentially propagate thru the network.
It is a very organic looking network kinda visual. What the facebook social graph shows is real connections between real people. This is exactly the kind of thing I experience with my RSS connections to people out on the blog and pod o sphere. I have often mused on the significance of propagating information via connected RSS feeds instead of thru hapless waterbuffalo mechanisms such as (unsolicited) e/mail. You have heard me say many times that e/mail will be replaced by something built on RSS.
But something I didn’t see coming was the effectiveness of RSS connections for provision of developer platforms. This is why there is a bunch of fuss about the FaceBook platform – which enables people to build applications that can leverage mass distribution via the facebook social graph. These guys are building on the value of CONNECTIONS.
This is why I am perservering with my facebook experiments, including my facebook API hackery.
